Tea at the Ritz, London

The bloke and I recently went to the Ritz hotel in London to enjoy afternoon tea. We soaked in the fantastic atmosphere at the Ritz in the tea room and lounge area and sipped our tea and champagne while listening to piano music. Before we were shown our seats, we explored the lounge area next to the tea rooms. Gold trim on the walls, beautiful large vases of flowers, mirrors, marble, and fine artistic detail in the architecture and furnishings made up the rooms.

We were soon shown our seat and were brought our tea (we chose the Ritz special blend) in a silver kettle. The sandwich selection followed on a triple tier stand, and a selection of pastries were on the top. The sandwiches included chicken, cheese, salmon, ham, cucumber, and egg. The pastries included a slice of chocolate cake (delicious), creamy tart with macaroon bases, a raspberry tart, and a slice of a creamy and lemon-flavoured slide (with pastry).

More sandwiches were brought out, and we could have had more pastries and scones if we had had more room in our stomachs! We got two scones each, but I was so full that I could not eat my last scone and had to leave it. The scones included clotted cream and strawberry jam.

After the scones, we were offered a slice of cake. We had the choice between a lemon sponge or carrot cake. I selected the carrot cake, and the bloke had the lemon sponge. The cake looked delicious, but unfortunately, I did not find it to be moist enough, and it was quite bland. (The lemon sponge was also disappointing.)

After tea, we took a few more photographs before wandering back to the tube and on our way back home.
